19.4cm overall · 9.4cm fork head · 10cm handle · 360 degree rotation · 304 stainless steel · 0.1kg
Most eating aids assume the hand can still close around something. When it cannot, because of advanced arthritis, a stroke, cerebral palsy or muscle weakness, the usual answer is a cuff bought separately and threaded onto ordinary cutlery. This fork does the job in one piece. An adjustable hook and loop strap passes across the back of the hand and holds the handle against the palm, so the fork stays put with the fingers completely relaxed. Nothing has to be gripped, squeezed or balanced.
The fork head rotates a full 360 degrees in the handle, which matters more than it sounds. As the wrist turns on the way from plate to mouth, the head stays level instead of tipping food off, so a loaded fork arrives loaded. The handle is 10cm long and ribbed along its length for extra purchase if the user does have partial grip, and the head is 304 food grade stainless steel with smoothed edges, so it holds its shape rather than bending under pressure. The whole utensil weighs 0.1kg and the strap adjusts to the width of the palm.
With an adjustable palm strap, a 360 degree rotating head and a 304 stainless steel fork on a ribbed 10cm handle, the SectorCare Adaptive Fork helps people with little or no grip keep feeding themselves at home, in aged care and through rehabilitation across Australia.
Do I need to grip the fork?
No. The adjustable strap holds the handle against the palm, so the fork stays in place with the fingers relaxed.
What does the rotating head do?
The head turns 360 degrees in the handle, so it stays level as the wrist rotates and food is less likely to slide off on the way to the mouth.
Will the strap fit my hand?
The hook and loop strap adjusts to the width of the palm and covers most adult hand sizes.
What is the fork made from?
The head is 304 food grade stainless steel with smoothed edges, on a ribbed non slip handle.
How long is it?
19.4 cm overall, with a 9.4 cm fork head and a 10 cm handle, weighing 0.1 kg.
